Learning & Education

No two children are the same and that’s why it’s so important for our staff to really get to know and understand the needs of every individual child, like yours, to ensure that the curriculum that we are following is appropriately tweaked, refined and perfected to answer the needs of each child.

Our Commitments to Learning & Development

  • We follow the Development Matters framework (fully outlined below).

  • We understand that children develop at their own rate and in their own unique ways and that all children may need support at times.

  • We observe all our children in their play and during activities in order to assess and then plan their next steps, according to their needs.

  • Every child is allocated a Key Person. The Key Person is responsible for both the care and education of the children in their group. Parents will receive A Unique Child report card at the end of each term, which outlines the strengths and achievements of the past term and the next steps planned.

  • We plan different adult-led activities across all areas of the curriculum for children to access throughout each day.

  • We are required to complete a 2 year progress check the term after your child turns 2 and a Pre-School transfer form which will be forwarded to your child’s primary school in the term before they leave for school.

  • We support babies and children within their own culture, supporting any festivals celebrated at home, or other languages spoken, and we welcome you to share these details with us.

  • We use an Online Learning System called Tapestry - find out more about this system here.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Development involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.*

Communication & Language

Involves providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement. Children must also be helped to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy choices in relation to food.*

Physical Development

Involves helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.*

“From the moment we walked in to look around, after moving to the area, the staff at Rockers and Rollers have welcomed us with open arms and a friendly smile. ”

Learn Through Exploration & Play

Literacy

Development involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.

Understanding the World

Involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.

Mathematics

Involves providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces, and measure.

Expressive Arts & Design

Involves enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology.
